The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) is seeking to appoint a new Chair of Court to succeed the current Chair, Garry Coutts. UHI is a modern university partnership of 13 independent colleges and research institutions and is the only tertiary university in Scotland and one of only a few worldwide. Our reputation for world leading research in specific fields is enriched by our reputation for our locally based, community focussed campuses and our innovative approach to learning. Since becoming a university in 2011, we have grown quickly and now host 40,000 students across our campuses in Scotland.
We are seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to Chair the University Court – our governing body – to be responsible for the leadership and effectiveness of the Court and to play a central role in setting and maintaining excellent standards of corporate governance and institutional leadership, reflecting the principles set out in the Scottish Code of Good Higher Education Governance. This is an exciting time for the new Chair to work with the newly appointed Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Todd Walker, as the University shapes and delivers its new strategic plan.
Candidates should have a track record of successful leadership at senior and strategic levels within a large, complex organisation. Extensive experience of corporate governance issues is essential and a demonstrable commitment to the work of UHI and to transforming the lives of its students. Interest is sought from suitably qualified candidates who are highly skilled communicators, able to represent the University internally and externally, promoting its interests with key stakeholders regionally and nationally.
