V&A Dundee

Non-Executive Directors

Job Reference EAVAF
Closing Date Monday 23 May 2022

V&A Dundee is Scotland’s design museum; designed for everyone, firing imaginations and sparking curiosity in design across Scotland and around the world.

 At V&A Dundee, we are on a mission to inspire and empower through design.

Since opening in 2018, V&A Dundee has become one of Scotland’s most popular free visitor attractions and has generated £75 million for the Scottish economy in its first year alone. As part of the V&A family of museums that celebrate creativity in all its forms across centuries, for everyone, and based in an award-winning building on Dundee’s spectacular reimagined waterfront, the Museum has built a strong reputation with an ambitious programme of exhibitions and learning activities. Scottish and international design is celebrated and showcased at the Museum and a deep commitment to the wider regeneration of the city of Dundee is embedded in its mission.

As V&A Dundee looks towards its 5th birthday in 2023, its four priorities for the next five years are to:

  • Generate joy and spark curiosity in design;
  • Grow its civic role as a museum and deepen its social impact;
  • Become Scotland’s design champion; and
  • Cultivate a creative, climate conscious, connected, diverse, dynamic and entrepreneurial organisation.

V&A Dundee operates under the company Design Dundee Ltd (DDL), an independent charitable organisation. The Board of DDL comprise the non-executive Directors and Leonie Bell, and support the strategic direction and sustainability of V&A Dundee and develop and deliver the Board’s policies and priorities. DDL has a strong and committed Board, which is the ultimate decision-making function of V&A Dundee and is responsible for governance of V&A Dundee.

V&A Dundee are now seeking non-executive directors to join the Board and help to shape one of Scotland’s most dynamic and ambitious cultural organisations. V&A Dundee are interested in hearing from people from all backgrounds and with various levels of experience to ensure that V&A Dundee’s Board is enriched through diversity. V&A Dundee are particularly keen to hear from people with an interest and experience in architecture, design, climate change, equalities, technology, law, and museums. Alongside this, the Board would be strengthened by people with national, UK and international perspectives, along with knowledge of the UK and Scottish constitutional context.

V&A Dundee particularly welcomes interest from people who bring characteristics or come from backgrounds that are underrepresented at board level.
