Chair

Job Reference JADAKD
Closing Date Monday 19 Oct 2020

With 70,000 customers in over 30,000 homes across the south of England, VIVID is a large-scale landlord and developer, and a major organisation in the UK social housing sector. Our expertise, customer focus and financial strength together with the energy and ambition of our board and 850 employees, have helped us maintain the highest regulatory ratings, and we were WhatHouse? Housing Association of the Year last year.
Our vision is ‘more homes, bright futures’ because we believe having a safe and secure place to call home is fundamental to everyone’s wellbeing and chance in life. Our homes across Hampshire, Berkshire, Surrey and West Sussex are available across all tenures and types, from social rent to private market sale, tailored to the needs and demands of each area. We offer a range of advice and support services –including employment and training services, money advice, and a pioneering mental health service – which create an important springboard for individuals into other aspects of their life. To help more people find a place to call home, we’ve set an ambitious target to build 17,000 homes over the next 10 years.
VIVID is a relatively young organisation, formed from a merger in 2017, and we are proud of our achievements so far, but our sights remain firmly on the future. Looking ahead, we’ve set ourselves some stretching goals to engage with our customers, improve our existing homes and develop new homes. We know that the future, at least in the short term, will be different as we come out of the COVID-19 pandemic, but we’re confident that the work we’ve done has put is in the strongest position to achieve the best for customers.
It is against this background that we are looking for a new Chair, as Mike Kirk prepares to step down in July 2021 after 6 year’s outstanding service and having served the maximum possible term.
Our new Chair will be excited about the potential in VIVID and bring an authentic interest in and commitment to social housing. We are looking for an experienced non-executive, who can bring personality and energy to the board as well as a knowledge of good governance, ideally within regulated settings. Given the size and commercial model of VIVID, our new Chair will have a track record as an effective strategic leader within organisations of scale and complexity – in any sector.
The role will take around 3-5 days a month and will be remunerated at £29,000 per annum.
We support equality, diversity and inclusion in all our work, so we’re keen to consider candidates from the widest possible range of backgrounds.
