Director of Finance and Deputy Receiver General

Job Reference FAWAJ
Closing Date Tuesday 09 Feb 2021

At Westminster Abbey, we see ourselves as a living symbol of faith at the heart of the nation. We are an internationally known centre of worship, with visitors from around the world, royal connections, and a thousand years of history.
In the face of the pandemic, we have successfully transformed the Abbey’s financial management capabilities and taken robust action to secure financial sustainability for our future. As our Director of Finance & Deputy Receiver General retires in May 2021, we are now seeking a successor who can help us navigate our way through the opportunities and risks of the exciting years ahead, who will exercise wise stewardship of all our resources and ensure that they are invested creatively and to maximum effect behind our chosen priorities.
The Deputy Receiver General is directly responsible for some of our most important commercial, operational and administrative functions, and she or he will enjoy significant delegated authority from the Receiver General to lead or coordinate a wide range of activities and projects across the Abbey.
This calls for an exceptional individual with the energy, clarity of thought and personal credibility to thrive in a demanding and busy environment operating in the national limelight. A readiness to engage fully with all aspects of the Abbey’s life, including its life of public worship, is crucial to both success and personal fulfilment in this role.
The Abbey has recognised that it needs to strengthen the diversity of its leadership, so we are keen to hear from candidates who bring diversity of thought, experience and background to our team.
This is an outstanding opportunity to join us in a highly influential leadership role. It comes at an exciting time for the Abbey – one of unprecedented challenge, but also of great possibilities, as we seek to serve a nation which more than ever needs the inspiration, healing and hope that the Abbey offers.
