Metropolitan Thames Valley

Job Title: Chair

Job Reference:UAGADA

Closing Date: Wednesday 11 Sep 2019

Salary: Remunerated

In the midst of a deepening housing crisis, with over a million people on housing lists, huge obstacles for first time buyers to get their foot on the housing ladder, and homelessness on the rise, the role of the housing association has never been more important or more necessary.

As one of the largest providers of social housing in the country – with a turnover of £400m, and 57,000 homes across London, the South East, East Midlands and East of England – Metropolitan Thames Valley (MTVH) is playing a critical role in meeting significant societal challenges. We are more than a provider of bricks and mortar but an anchor in communities, and we deliver care and support to customers with a wide range of needs.

Formed from the merger of Metropolitan and Thames Valley in 2018, we are proud of where we have come from as well as the modern and bold approach we take today. We are dedicated to providing homes at different levels of affordability, including social and affordable rents and shared ownership delivered through our So Resi brand https://soresi.co.uk/. We are also a major developer of new homes and we offer housing for market sale and market rent; our innovative Fizzy Living brand was set up to disrupt the private rented sector, make a change and set a new rental standard. We have established our name as a bold actor in the social housing space and we have ambitious plans for the future.

Early in 2020 after 6 years of outstanding service our Chair, Paula Kahn, will be standing down and so we are starting the process of finding her successor. The role of Chair is a critical one for MTVH as we continue the work of post-merger integration, improving services and efficiency, growing our development programme to 2,000 new homes a year, nurturing our people, and creating a truly customer-centric organisation, trusted by residents and equipped to provide the high quality service they should expect.

We would welcome applications for this role from people with strategic experience at board level in organisations of significant scale and complexity, as well as strong non-executive and chairing experience. We need someone with financial and commercial acumen, who understands different sectors, including regulated environments and organisations which engage with government and policy makers. The right person will help energise and shape our high-calibre board and ensure we are ready to meet the range of challenges and opportunities ahead, both for MTVH and the social housing sector as a whole.

We are proudly committed to equality and diversity as a core part of what we do and we would welcome applications for this role from the broadest possible range of people.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to MTVH on this appointment. For further information about the role, including details about how to apply, please visit www.saxbam.com/appointments using reference UAGADA. Alternatively telephone +44 (0)20 7227 0880 (during office hours). Applications should be received by noon on Wednesday 11 September 2019.
