Appointment of new CEO for GLF Schools

GLF Schools have announced that Julian Drinkall has been appointed as their new CEO, following a national recruitment campaign. Julian will replace Jon Chaloner, founding CEO, who will be stepping down at the end of the year after leading GLF Schools since its formation in September 2012.

Julian is a proven MAT CEO, having been CEO of AET for 5 years until 2021, during which time he led a major transformation of the organisation. Julian also brings an international track record of working with schools and other organisations in the state, non-profit and private sectors. Julian will take up his post on 11 December.

Lynne O’Reilly, Chair of GLF Schools, said, “Whilst naturally we are sad that Jon will be moving on, the Board is delighted that Julian will be taking over as CEO. We had a high level of interest in the role and some excellent candidates, and we are confident that Julian will bring an exceptional level of expertise and skills to the organisation. Thanks to Jon’s work the Trust is in a strong position, and the Board and I look forward to supporting Julian as he builds on that strength to ensure the best possible provision for the 17000+ children in our schools.”

With regard to his appointment, Julian said, ”I am delighted and proud to be joining GLF Schools as Chief Executive and looking forward to getting to know students and staff, parents and carers, and each local community. From the outset I’ve been struck by the incredible work that the whole GLF family is so clearly committed to, and the Trust’s values and beliefs are a direct match with my own. Jon and the team have established a strong track record for the Trust and I’m really looking forward to building on that impressive legacy, supporting each school to go from strength to strength.”

Jon Chaloner said “It has been a privilege to be the CEO of GLF Schools and I am grateful for the opportunities and support that I have received during my 11 years in the role. A change of leadership can be unsettling for any organisation but the appointment of someone of Julian’s calibre and experience will provide confident leadership of the Trust for the future. I shall work with Julian to ensure a smooth handover during the autumn term.”
