Lucy Casot named new CEO of Museum Galleries Scotland

Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) has announced the appointment of Lucy Casot as CEO. With a strong background in Scotland’s cultural sector Lucy brings extensive knowledge and experience to the role.

Lucy leaves her post as Head of Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) Scotland where she has overseen a great variety of grants to Scotland’s museums and galleries, from major museum capital developments including the Riverside Museum, Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, National Museum of Scotland and the V&A Dundee, to investment in skills training, collections management, learning programmes and acquisitions.  A great promoter of collaborative working, Lucy has led HLF’s response to Scottish Government’s Themed Years programme.

Specifically, her first-hand knowledge of leading on supporting organisations to realise their ambitions will be advantageous in her new role. I know that she will be a great asset in leading MGS’s work to develop a sustainable museums and galleries sector.”

“I am keenly aware of the extent of the positive impact that Scotland’s museums and galleries have on the lives of people who live in, and visit, this country. Coming from a funding organisation, I know the challenges facing the sector and I understand how important MGS’s role is to ensure that our museums continue to thrive. I am looking forward to working with the staff and Board of MGS to support and advocate for Scotland’s museums and galleries.”

Lucy Casot will commence her new role in January 2019 and John McLeish, Interim CEO of MGS, will return to the Board of the national development body.
