Advancing public trust and confidence in RICS and the profession, ensuring that RICS fulfils its Royal Charter obligations, setting the overall strategy and vision for RICS, and ensuring the most effective governance model is in place and providing high level assurance and oversight in relation to both the governance and the strategic objectives of the organisation, are the primary accountabilities of the Governing Council.

The Senior Independent Governor (SIG) and Independent Member will support Governing Council in delivering its responsibilities. The SIG and Independent Member roles are independent, and they should therefore not be, or have been, a member of RICS.  Their role is to support and challenge the President, and act as an intermediary between governance bodies and the Executive to ensure the effective delivery of RICS strategy and good governance across the Institution.

The successful candidates will be passionate about RICS and the role of professions and professional bodies acting in the public interest and for the public advantage. They will have a strong desire to contribute to the future of the built and natural environment, along with a drive for effective and fit for purpose corporate governance. They will bring a clear understanding of the role of Chartered Surveyors and personal qualities of integrity, credibility, with a demonstrable commitment to the values and principles of RICS.
