Our Future Health

Chief Science Officer

Job Reference ZBWTA
Closing Date Wednesday 12 Nov 2025 (Now Expired)

Despite advances in healthcare and medicine, large numbers of people in the UK still spend many years of their later life in poor health because of common diseases and health conditions such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, heart disease, arthritis, diabetes and stroke.

Our Future Health helps health researchers to tackle this growing burden of disease. With our data, they can develop new ways to detect diseases at an earlier stage, and even prevent them from occurring in the first place.

We’re now the world’s biggest health research programme of its kind and our volunteer group is also more diverse than other, similar health research programmes. We’re building a community of volunteers to create a detailed picture of the nation’s health. Thanks to the phenomenal support of the public, registered health researchers are already studying an incredibly detailed picture of the UK’s health. We currently have around 50 approved studies that are actively analysing our data, including studies on cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and kidney disease.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join Our Future Health as Chief Science Officer (CSO), providing strategic leadership for the scientific direction of Our Future Health, ensuring that the programme’s research and data activities maintain the highest scientific integrity and impact.  The CSO will help to safeguard our work and translate Our Future Health’s unprecedented data resources into meaningful discoveries – particularly in prevention and early detection – that will help people live longer, healthier lives.

The CSO will ensure the highest standards of scientific integrity, guide research priorities, and oversee data quality, analysis, and dissemination. Acting as the organisation’s leading scientific voice, you will advise the Chief Executive and Board, represent Our Future Health in national and international forums, and champion the translation of research into real-world impact.

We are seeking an outstanding scientific leader with an exemplary record in population health, biomedical research or related fields. You will bring deep understanding of large-scale research programmes, data-driven science, and public health priorities. With proven strategic vision and experience leading research teams or collaborations, you will combine intellectual rigour with the ability to communicate complex science clearly and credibly. Above all, you will share Our Future Health’s mission to help people live healthier lives for longer through prevention, early detection, and better treatment.
