Birmingham Health Partners
Chair
Birmingham Health Partners (BHP), established in 2015, is a strategic alliance of nine University and NHS members collaborating to deliver groundbreaking translational research, world-class education and training, and the highest quality patient care. Operating in one of the UK’s most socially, ethnically and economically diverse areas, BHP is an alliance of organisations with over 50,000 staff, 5 million annual patient contacts, and a combined turnover of £4.7 billion.
Our partnership is committed to transforming healthcare through high-impact innovation. We aim to deliver research that matters to patients, ensuring equal access to health and care research benefits for the whole population. Through collaboration, we seek to achieve significant breakthroughs, translating research into practice and accelerating innovation adoption in clinics, directly benefiting local patient communities and fostering regional economic growth via a vibrant health and life sciences sector.
We are now looking to appoint an experienced Chair to help lead our recently expanded partnership into its next phase of development. The Chair will lead the Board in shaping BHP’s strategic vision and providing robust scrutiny of operations. Key responsibilities include fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration, ensuring effective Board relations and decision-making, and setting the agenda with a focus on strategy, performance, culture, accountability, and governance. The Chair will also act as an ambassador for BHP at local, regional, and national levels, ensure high standards of probity and governance, and support Board development.
The successful candidate will bring significant non-executive board-level and chairing experience. They will be expected to be familiar with, or have demonstrable experience of, how a values-based health science cluster, formed of key organisations in a city-region, can harness shared research and innovation capabilities to achieve significant health impact and economic growth.
