Wrekin College

Head

Job Reference TWHD
Closing Date Monday 26 Jan 2026

Wrekin College (11-18) and Wrekin Prep (4-11) share a beautiful 100-acre campus in central Shropshire. The College is a day and boarding school educating approximately 490 students, whilst Wrekin Prep serves 188 pupils as a day school. Together they form the Wrekin Old Hall Trust, with an annual income of over £10 million and around 250 staff. Known locally as “The School in the Garden”, the campus features outstanding facilities including a Music School, Art School, Design School, 200-seat theatre, two astroturf pitches, and extensive sporting facilities.

Wrekin’s mission is transformative education that helps every pupil discover and become their best self. The school balances academic excellence with personal growth, operating as an inclusive community that welcomes pupils of all faiths or none. With 14% of pupils currently boarding, both from the UK and internationally, boarding remains core to the school’s ethos, with activities continuing into evenings and weekends supported by staff living on campus.

The Head of Wrekin College will provide strategic and educational leadership for this thriving community, working closely with the Governing Body and the incoming Head of Wrekin Prep to ensure the two schools operate in an increasingly collaborative way whilst preserving their distinctive characters. Key responsibilities include maintaining the school’s reputation for preparing pupils for academic success and working life; ensuring vibrant boarding provision in a competitive market; leading marketing efforts to sustain healthy recruitment; and fostering a culture where staff feel valued and have opportunities to develop.

The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to high standards, innovation and continuous improvement; appreciation of marketing and relationship building within education; strong financial acumen; and knowledge of safeguarding best practice. Personal attributes include intellectual acuity, collegiate leadership style, personal dynamism, ambassadorial skills, and understanding of the school’s Christian ethos. Experience of boarding is desirable but not essential, provided the candidate values campus community life.
