Asthma + Lung UK
Chief Executive Officer
Salary: circa £135,000 – £150,000
As the UK’s biggest lung charity, Asthma + Lung UK is tackling the UK’s 3rd biggest killer through research, campaigning, advice and support. Our vision is for a world where everyone has healthy lungs and the ability to breathe freely is enjoyed by all.
Whoever said, “We all breathe the same air” didn’t grow up in any of the places in the UK where air pollution exceeds the World Health Organisation’s recommended limits. Didn’t have to worry about being one of the 36,000 early deaths attributed to air pollution every year. Wasn’t the 1 in every 5 people who will have a lung condition in their lifetime. Or one of the 5.4 million people in the UK living with asthma. Right now, the situation needs drastic improvement.
We are looking for our next Chief Executive to lead and deliver against our ambitious strategy to shine a light on the need for better lung health and drive forward income growth; be an effective ambassador for our charity and those with lung conditions; to fundraise ambitiously; and lead and motivate our Executive Team to drive our collective ambition forward.
We are looking for a strategic and entrepreneurial thinker, with highly effective communication and ambassadorial skills to build credible relationships with a wide range of stakeholders – from respiratory clinicians, research scientists to funding bodies and major donors. We are looking for candidates with ideally a track record in effective relationship-building, income generation and service delivery, and the capacity to drive these forward. Whilst an understanding of respiratory medicine and healthcare will be beneficial, we are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate their ability to build credibility in this field while also mobilising key stakeholders to take up our cause. Ultimately, we are looking for candidates who will put our beneficiaries at the heart of all that we are doing and who are aligned with our values and dedication to making a step change in lung health.
One of our strategic aims is to tackle health inequalities, including health outcomes for people from minority ethnic groups, and so we’d therefore particularly welcome applications from people from those backgrounds.
