Clerk to Governors and Compliance Officer
Blackheath Prep is a vibrant co-educational day school of just over 380 pupils located on a beautiful five-acre site close to Blackheath Village. Blackheath Prep now seeks to appoint a Clerk to the Governors and Compliance Officer to support its Governing Body. The Clerk will ensure that good governance is carried out in accordance with the school’s statutes. They will prepare, review, and update governance protocols, organise induction and training for Governors, and ensure that all Governors are aware of their statutory and regulatory responsibilities. The Clerk, together with the Chair of Governors, will ensure the efficient functioning of governance, preparing agendas and paperwork, minuting meetings, and overseeing occasional audits of governance. As Compliance Officer, they shall also ensure that the school remains up-to-date with all appropriate regulations including but not limited to GDPR, Keeping Children Safe in Education, EYFS statutory framework, and Independent Schools Standards and Regulations.
The successful candidate will have previous experience on a board or senior leadership team and be able to demonstrate a strong grasp of good governance. They will have experience working at a senior level in a regulated environment and will have knowledge of legal processes and procedures associated with serving as Clerk to the Governors or Company Secretary of a major organisation.
This role is part time (two days per week) and can be conducted primarily remotely and in flexible hours.
