Cardiff Met has an excellent track record in applied research, with much of our activity housed within three recently launched Global Academies: Health and Human Performance, User Centred Design, and Food Science, Safety and Security. The Global Academies form a central part of the University’s research and innovation strategy and postgraduate student recruitment strategy, and are critical to the growth ambitions of the University more generally.

The Dean of Global Academies will provide leadership for the three current and any future Global Academies. Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) with a dotted line to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, the Dean will have responsibility for the overall strategic development, growth, and reputation of the Global Academies initiative. Their leadership will enable an increase in the scale, reach and impact of research and innovation across the institution, leveraging the Academies to develop linkages between disciplines and ultimately growing the research profile of Cardiff Met. They will also lead the development of the next phase of the Global Academies to deliver a portfolio of applied taught postgraduate programmes ensuring that the programmes attract strong international recruitment.

The Dean of the Global Academies is a fixed term role that comes with a permanent Professorial post. The professorial post-holder will be a recognised leader and innovator and have an international reputation for research. They will demonstrate a record of success in external research and innovation grant capture alongside a strong publication track record.  The role will involve developing and leading research teams and leadership of knowledge exchange and research impact activity.

Strong candidates for the role will bring a track record of leadership across research and/or enterprise activity. Experience of designing, developing and establishing new taught postgraduate provision is desirable. Leadership of complex research consortia, a track record of multidisciplinary working and an enthusiasm for collaboration are key attributes. Good candidates will bring a personal track record of academic success.
