Christ College Brecon is one of Wales’s most historic and respected independent schools, founded by King Henry VIII in 1541. Set in a stunning part of the Welsh countryside, the College provides outstanding holistic education for day pupils aged 4+ and boarding from age 10-18. With its distinctive heritage, strong community ethos, and motto “They achieve because they believe they can,” the College maintains a reputation for academic excellence whilst nurturing the whole person through an exceptional co-curricular programme.

Christ College occupies a substantial estate in Brecon; it generates a turnover in the region of £10m and employs around 130 members of staff. Outside term time, the Bursarial team oversee a significant programme of activities and lettings, enabling the school to generate important additional income. The school also has some international presence, and is in the process of exploring other similar ventures.

The Bursar, who is also Clerk to the Governors, is a significant senior leader within the school, overseeing finance, IT, HR, estates, project management, catering, investment management, and regulatory compliance. They will work closely with the Head, the leadership team and governors, contributing both to the development of strategy, as well as the delivery of key priorities.

The successful candidate will have outstanding finance skills, demonstrable leadership experience and proven ability to manage a multi-disciplinary team. Excellent relationship building and communication skills are essential. The ideal candidate would combine a strong focus on delivery with an entrepreneurial and commercial mindset. Candidates must demonstrate a strong sympathy with the College as an academic environment, charity, and business.
