General Pharmaceutical Council

Chair, Assurance and Appointments Committee

Job Reference AAEEN
Closing Date Tuesday 27 May 2025 (Now Expired)

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is the independent regulator for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and registered pharmacies in Great Britain. With pharmacies operating at the heart of our communities, and pharmacy professionals in all sectors playing a much greater role in providing care to patients and the public, the GPhC’s job is to protect, promote and maintain the health, safety, and wellbeing of members of the public by upholding standards and public trust in pharmacy.

The GPhC is now seeking a new Chair for our Assurance & Appointments Committee (AAC). The AAC is accountable to our governing Council but operates independently, playing a vital role in recruiting members for our Investigating Committee and Fitness to Practise Committee, and in assuring the quality and integrity of their work. This is a critical part of ensuring the committees’ decisions have the confidence of the public and the profession. As Chair, you will be at the heart of this strategic function, shaping the future direction of the committee, championing exemplary governance, and steering its critical work.

The successful candidate will bring experience of leadership at board level or equivalent, including chairing meetings. You will also bring a general understanding of regulation, with some experience operating in a comparable environment. With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to articulate views clearly, you will have experience of evaluating complex information and making objective, evidence-based decisions.
