Chief Scientist
Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) is the UK’s national institute for health data, connecting England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland to unlock the power of health data for patients, populations, and global research. We are at the forefront of a revolution in health data, with the ability to transform patient care, public health, and global research.
We are now seeking an extraordinary Chief Scientist to provide bold, visionary scientific leadership and shape the next decade of health data innovation. This is a high-profile, internationally visible role where you will drive world-class research, harness cutting-edge data science, and build partnerships across academia, the NHS, government, industry, and the third sector.
In this role, you will lead HDR UK’s research and innovation programmes, including the UK Region and Driver Programme investments, guiding a distributed network of top-tier researchers. You will create a vibrant, collaborative ecosystem that translates complex health data into real-world impact, inspiring teams and partners alike. This is an opportunity to work at the interface of AI, machine learning, tissue biology, and multi-dimensional patient data, transforming the UK’s unique health data assets into tools that save lives, improve care, and advance scientific discovery.
We are looking for a dynamic, values-driven leader with exceptional strategic vision and the ability to develop emerging research disciplines. You will have experience managing complex programmes, securing significant funding, and building high-impact partnerships. Deep knowledge of health data environments, governance, and research translation, combined with exceptional professional leadership, influence, and communication skills, will allow you to shape a thriving, innovative health data ecosystem.
