LUC

Chair, Trustee Board

Job Reference SBPPB
Closing Date Monday 05 Jan 2026

We want to leave this world in a better place. Delivering a legacy that we’re proud of is challenging, but LUC’s impact is at the heart of how we run the company.

LUC was created to tackle the toughest issues of sustainable development that balance the needs of communities and the environment. A multi-disciplinary consultancy, established in 1966 by three founders, we bring together the disciplines of ecology, landscape architecture and planning. Today, the result is a thriving business and one of the leading advisors in its field. With clients that range from those that influence public policy, leaders in the renewables energy sector and national heritage and conservation organisations, our highly skilled team of creative and technical experts share in a common belief: that for each client we will strive to deliver a solution that is of benefit for the environment. We believe that challenging convention is the key to solving today’s biggest problems and we bring together a team of experts who can support our clients in doing this. Our decision making is driven by our mission: to deliver better futures for nature, people and places. Having become an Employee-Ownership Trust in 2019, LUC is owned by all its employees. This allows the business an independence to do things its own way, while not ignoring the commercial requirements of a successful and rewarding business. Our strategy is led and implemented by the Company Board, which is held to account by the Trustees on behalf of all employees.

We are now looking to appoint an Independent Chair to lead the Trustee Board. As a proven leader with strong governance skills and experience of working effectively at Board level, the Chair will support the Trustee and Company Boards by bringing an independent perspective, professional guidance and appropriate challenge to decision making. The Chair will promote the benefits of being an Employee-Ownership Trust and lead the Trustee Board in the effective management of meetings and Board activities to ensure that the Company Board is successful in developing LUC on behalf of the employee-owners.

We are looking for an experienced non-executive who is values-led and passionate about supporting high performing professional services organisations. Candidates will demonstrate a strong cultural alignment and genuine interest in the principles of employee ownership. We are particularly keen to hear from individuals who bring strategic board level experience in values-led and people focussed businesses where human capital is at a premium. An interest and understanding of the sectors in which LUC operates would be an advantage.
