Metropolitan Police Service

CFO

Job Reference HAQKG
Closing Date Thursday 16 Mar 2023 (Now Expired)

The Met’s job and mission is clear, to achieve More Trust, Less Crime and High Standards. Now, more than ever, our organisation is fully focused on achieving excellence. With a clear mission and a renewed top team, the Met will renew policing by consent with the strongest ever neighbourhood teams. It will drive the Met’s day-to-day performance by exploiting data, insight and technology and adapt to a fast-changing world.

With circa 50,000 officers and staff, the Metropolitan Police Service is the UK’s largest police service with c.25% of the total police budget for England and Wales. It is the territorial police force responsible for law enforcement in Greater London and the coordination of significant national responsibilities such as Counter Terrorism.

The Met is looking for an experienced and ambitious CFO who will be a strategic partner to the Met, enabling and working in support of the wider change agenda at the heart of the organisation and making its multi-billion-pound budget work for London.

The post will transform and modernise the finance function to deliver value for money and drive efficiency. Supporting the Commissioner and Management Board with expert advice, the CFO will lead a strategic, best in class function that works alongside the organisation, partnering with leaders to enable informed and robust discussions around productivity, efficiency, and operational delivery. The successful candidate will be an operationally credible finance leader who is capable of influencing the board, driving change, and making risk-based decisions with the ultimate aim of keeping London safe. Externally, they will play an influential role with a range of stakeholders, and work collaboratively and regularly with the MOPAC CFO to manage the significant responsibilities and complex financial management arrangements for policing in London.

Candidates will be operationally minded finance leaders who are able to operate seamlessly at both strategic and tactical levels. You will bring experience of building capability and driving change through the finance function. An outstanding relationship builder and influencer at senior levels internally and externally, the successful candidate will also be a resilient, solutions-focused people leader. You will have operated in organisations of comparable scale and complexity to the Met.

Candidates will be confident operating in a public sector context, but do not need to bring experience from the emergency services. The Met are keen to consider senior finance leaders from across all sectors and are open to this being an opportunity that will ultimately herald promotion, or provide an exciting transformation project for someone looking to give to public service, following a senior career.
