Norwich Theatre
Chair
Norwich Theatre is one of the leading arts organisations in the UK and the largest in the East of England, encompassing the historic Theatre Royal, the creative hub Stage Two, and the intimate mid-scale Playhouse. We present, produce and co-create a vibrant programme of live performance and creative engagement activities to entertain, enrich and inspire audiences of all ages and backgrounds. We work with national and international partners to ensure we bring the very best theatre to our region, from partnerships with the Royal Shakespeare Company to co-productions with Carlos Acosta; National Theatre to Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures; co-productions with Buxton International Festival to our Norwich Theatre Beyond work taking theatre outside of our buildings. We are an independent not-for-profit charity with no regular public funding, and rely on a share of ticket sales, one-off grants, fundraising/membership schemes and other commercial activities to deliver the work we do both on stage and in communities.
The Board now seeks candidates for the role of Chair, amidst a very exciting time at Norwich Theatre. In a strong financial position and entering an important phase of growth and development through its new Creative Experiences strategy, Norwich Theatre is looking to a bright future of exciting programming centred on producing more of our own work and continuing our engagement with local communities to drive social change. As Chair you will be a lead advocate and ambassador for the organisation’s work in a variety of settings by both what you do and how you do it, always living out Norwich Theatre’s values. You will lead, support and enable the Board of Trustees to fulfil their roles as custodians of Norwich Theatre’s charitable mission and drivers of its future strategy and prosperity. You will also support the highest quality of governance leadership in partnership with the Chief Executive & Creative Director and Vice Chair at an extremely exciting time as Norwich Theatre continues to embark on its ambitious Creative Experiences strategy.
Candidates will have a passion for the arts and the wide-ranging benefits the sector can generate and bring a strong track record of strategic leadership and good business acumen. They will be excited to engage externally and champion Norwich Theatre with local, regional and national stakeholders and partners and have a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in alignment with the mission and values of Norwich Theatre. They will ideally bring an altruistic approach, independence of thought, excellent relationship-building and communication skills, and the energy and drive to support the development of the organisation’s strategic vision for the future.
