At the Port of London Authority (PLA), we are responsible for the tidal Thames, 95 miles of river from Teddington Lock, through central London, out to the North Sea. world-famous port is the largest and fastest growing in the UK, and the Thames is the country’s busiest inland waterway for freight and passengers.  We work to keep commercial and leisure users safe, protect and enhance the river environment and promote the use of the river for trade and travel.

The Board of Directors is now seeking an experienced finance leader to join our executive team. With commercial responsibility for around 90% of the PLA’s revenue streams, we will look for individuals with an exemplary record who want to be actively involved in growing the business. For the right candidate this will be a very diverse, interesting, and challenging role. This is also a hands-on role; we are looking for someone who can think strategically but is also keen to make things happen personally and through getting the best out of their people. His/her remit is to lead a team of 5 high quality direct reports , and around 40 in the wider team covering Finance, Commercial, Procurement, Legal, Corporate IT, Navigational IT and the Estates  team.

Successful candidates will be commercially astute qualified accountants, as well as customer focused with the personal stature to command the respect of all our most senior internal and external stakeholders. They will bring at least 15 years post qualification experience with a track record of success as a group or divisional CFO in a complex, growing business. S/he will ideally be experienced dealing with funders and raising capital and most of all passionate about making a difference for the Thames to be a competitive Port with the right balance between investing to grow and deliver great services whilst also an exemplar of sustainability.
