Queen’s Counsel Appointments (QCA) is a small not for profit company, established in 2005, which takes applications from advocates (barristers or solicitors) to be recommended for appointment as Queen’s Counsel (silk) in England and Wales. The award of Queen’s Counsel is for excellence in advocacy in the higher courts. It is made to advocates who have rights of audience in the higher courts of England and Wales, and have demonstrated the competencies in the Competency Framework to a standard of excellence.

The QCA is looking to appoint a new Chief Executive. Reporting to the company Directors appointed by the Bar Council and the Law Society, and accountable to the Chair of the Selection Panel for the operation of the QC appointments process, the Chief Executive is responsible for the work of the QCA. They will be the main source of advice to the Selection Panel and, working closely with the Chair, will promote close co-operation between the Panel and the Secretariat.

Candidates for this role are likely to have administrative experience at a senior level in Government or other public service, legal professional body, or similar organisation. They will have experience of leading and working as a hands-on member of a small team, will be highly organised and possess strong analytical skills and attention to detail. The post-holder will have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders. They will have credibility with senior figures in the legal sector and government, and demonstrate a high-level of integrity, discretion and honesty.
