RNIB

Trustees

Job Reference XBXBA
Closing Date Monday 12 Jan 2026

RNIB is the UK’s leading sight loss charity, supporting blind and partially sighted people to live the life they choose. For over 150 years, we’ve provided practical support and campaigned to break down barriers. Independent and powered by the generosity of our supporters, we reach hundreds of thousands of people each year through our services, products and advocacy work. With an annual income of approximately £95 million and a dedicated workforce of colleagues and volunteers, we’re modernising to meet the evolving needs of the sight loss community.

We’re at a hugely exciting stage of our journey and are now seeking new exceptional Trustees to join our Board to help us build on and accelerate our impact. We want committed, values-driven leaders who can bring depth of expertise and help shape RNIB’s future. You’ll contribute at a strategic level with strong governance experience, excellent communication skills and a commitment to constructive challenge. Above all, you must share our passion for creating opportunity and breaking down barriers for blind and partially sighted people.

Honorary Treasurer

We’re seeking a strategic financial leader to oversee the charity’s financial management and chair the Finance and Investment Committee. You will bring CFO-level experience or equivalent Board-level financial leadership, ideally in an organisation of similar scale and complexity. Your confident communication and influencing skills will ensure the Board has the financial insight needed for effective decision-making. Understanding of charity finance and governance would be valuable.

Chair of People, Culture and Safeguarding Committee

We’re also seeking a senior people leader to chair our People, Culture and Safeguarding Committee. You’ll bring senior strategic leadership experience in people management, organisational design or cultural transformation in an organisation of similar scale and complexity. You’ll act as the Board’s designated Safeguarding Trustee and Lead Whistleblowing Trustee. The confidence to understand safeguarding matters is essential, with specialist training and external advisory support provided. Your strong communication skills and willingness to provide constructive challenge will help us champion best practice and create a safe, supportive environment for everyone connected with RNIB.

We’re committed to building a Board that reflects the diverse communities we serve. We actively encourage applications from blind and partially sighted people, and from individuals from underrepresented backgrounds who can bring fresh perspectives and help us build more inclusive leadership for the future. All trustees must demonstrate commitment to RNIB’s values, the interests of blind and partially sighted people, and adherence to the Nolan Principles of Public Life.

If you don’t meet these criteria but have the expertise and passion to help us break down barriers and transform lives, we’d still love to hear from you.

If you would like more information, the RNIB will be hosting an online webinar for this appointment. You can register here.
