Schoolreaders
CEO
At Schoolreaders we believe that every child should read well. Our mission is to improve literacy across the nation by creating a network of volunteers who listen to children read in their local primary schools. We are a young and ambitious charity and are now the largest provider of in-school reading support in the country. As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we are poised to grow very significantly in both scale and impact.
We already partner with over 1,000 schools across the country. We have a dedicated army of volunteers who listen to more than 20,000 primary school children read each week. By the end of 2026 we plan for that number to grow to 50,000 pupils and we are looking for an outstanding CEO to lead this growth.
Our foundations are strong. Our model is simple, scalable, and proven. We have secured funding to help expand our work over the next three years. You will have the full support of a passionate and committed Chair, an excellent Board and a highly effective team, who are all looking for a leader to work with them to build on Schoolreaders’ many successes.
You will be an inspirational leader who believes wholeheartedly that reading well is a fundamental skill that benefits every child, their family, their community and ultimately the country. You will be a champion for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and you will lead us to work with even more schools that serve the most disadvantaged pupils in the most deprived areas.
We are looking for a candidate with executive level experience in the charitable or business sector and beyond. You will have operated at senior level and have a track record of leading teams or organisations. You will be comfortable in representing Schoolreaders on the national stage. Commercially astute and financially aware, you will be aligned to our vision and keen to seize this exceptional opportunity.
