The Engineering & Design Institute London (TEDI-London)
Executive Dean
Salary: Competitive
The Engineering & Design Institute (TEDI-London) is a new, degree-awarding UK Higher Education provider specialising in engineering education. Established by three partners – Arizona State University, King’s College London and UNSW Sydney – TEDI-London was founded to address the critical shortage of engineers worldwide and enhance the quality of engineering graduates with the right mix of technical, social, and contextual skills to tackle global challenges. Targeting a more diverse cohort of students than traditional engineering degrees, TEDI-London aims to attract students through its innovative, industry informed and project-based curriculum. From its founding in 2019, through to starting up with an inaugural cohort in September 2021 and welcoming the second cohort in September 2022, TEDI-London continues to push boundaries and challenge the norms in engineering education.
Our founding Dean and CEO, Professor Judy Raper will be retiring at the end of 2023, having provided outstanding service to TEDI-London over the first five years of its life. We are now seeking an exceptional leader, with impressive academic credentials, to build on TEDI-London’s progress to date and to work with the Board to realise our ambitious plans for growth. The Executive Dean will be responsible for the day-to-day strategic management of the organisation, including both the academic and resource functions. Moving forwards the role will need to focus on the growth phase of TEDI-London’s development, including the scale up of operations, expansion of the current campus as well as fostering strategic partnerships to support the delivery of strong student number growth (ensuring our financial sustainability) and continuing to build a curriculum that is innovative and supports the delivery of our aims.
We are looking for an outstanding, emotionally intelligent leader with senior level experience in Higher Education or industry. Candidates will be disruptive and transformational leaders with a voracious appetite for innovation. They will bring well-developed external networks, experience of developing industry partnerships, alongside strong financial and commercial acumen. The best candidates will be able to articulate how to translate our vision and mission into a high performing, academically underpinned, rigorous offering with the potential to generate commercial income through the delivery of our innovative pedagogy.
We are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion in all our activities, and we invite candidates from under-represented groups to consider applying for this opportunity.
