The Welding Institute (TWI)
Director of Technology
TWI is a globally respected centre of excellence in engineering, technology, training, and assurance. With a heritage spanning over seven decades, we are recognised for our technical authority, innovation, and impartiality in supporting leading industrial Members and stakeholders around the world. As we embark on an exciting phase of transformation and strategic growth, we are seeking to appoint a new Director of Technology to join our Executive Team and help shape the future of engineering excellence at TWI.
This is a senior and influential leadership position, reporting directly to our CEO, and serving as a statutory Director. You will have responsibility for the global direction, delivery, and development of TWI’s engineering, research, and technology capabilities. As a key member of the executive leadership team, you will play a critical role in shaping company strategy and policy, while ensuring our engineering and technical services continue to meet the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and relevance for our global Membership. Beyond operational leadership, this role requires a forward-facing approach—developing engineering capability, influencing technology policy, and helping shape industrial innovation on a national and international stage. You will also contribute to our broader transformation programme, working to strengthen financial performance, modernise systems and ways of working, and enhance value for our global Membership.
We are looking for a dynamic and accomplished engineering leader, with deep expertise in technology strategy, people leadership, and technical assurance. You will bring extensive experience of leading large-scale, global technology teams within sectors aligned to TWI’s Membership, such as advanced manufacturing, energy, aerospace, or infrastructure. A strong understanding of engineering best practices, innovation ecosystems, and quality frameworks is essential.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and influential communicator, able to lead change while staying connected to operational delivery. We are looking for candidates who are commercially astute, globally minded, and passionate about developing people and technical capability. Above all, candidates will embody the values of TWI—integrity, innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to excellence.
If you are a visionary technology leader with the ambition to shape the next chapter of TWI’s journey, we would be delighted to hear from you.
