Director of Finance
Situated on 170 acres of beautiful Buckinghamshire parkland, Wycombe Abbey is a world-class boarding school for girls. Wycombe Abbey currently educates around 660 pupils ages 11-18, the vast majority of whom are full boarders. The School aims to encourage the development of each individual’s talents in academic, creative, physical, and social skills in a happy, fulfilling, and caring community.
Wycombe Abbey now seeks an experienced Director of Finance to support the Bursar and Governing Council in the financial management of the School and to lead and oversee the financial functions of the School, its four subsidiary companies, and two trusts. The Director of Finance will lead and manage a team of six Finance and Payroll staff and five School Shop staff and will have considerable responsibility for supporting all areas of the school with financial guidance and oversight. They will be responsible for conducting modelling and feasibility studies, ensuring financial systems and controls are efficient and effective, preparing long-term forecasting and sensitivity analysis, and represent the Finance Department at the Finance and General Purposes Committee of the Governing Council.
The successful candidate will be ACA, ACCA, or CIMA-qualified with substantial post-qualification experience. They will bring strong technical and commercial knowledge and a successful track record of leading and developing a finance team in the commercial, educational, or charity sectors. The successful candidate will ideally have experience of working in an organisation of a similar scale to Wycombe Abbey (c. £30m turnover) and will have the proven ability to work as part of an operational leadership team to support colleagues with financial management and planning. They will have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and a genuine commitment to Wycombe Abbey’s aims and ethos.
