CEO

Job Reference UAKAOB
Closing Date Monday 10 Aug 2020

Every life lost to suicide is a tragedy. Samaritans’ vision is that fewer people die by suicide. That’s why we work tirelessly to reach more people and to make suicide prevention a priority.
With over 20,000 volunteers, we support the people who need us most 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Through 201 branches across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland, we provide our telephone listening service, as well as support via email, letter and face to face. We will also soon launch an online chat service. We are an important and influential voice across the UK and Ireland on issues relating to suicide prevention. This is achieved through our proactive and far-reaching research, campaigns and policy agenda. We also build alliances and meaningful partnerships across society to raise awareness and action in support of our vision that fewer people die by suicide.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead Samaritans through its next strategic phase. We know that doing more of the same won’t be enough. We have embarked on extensive transformation and our new CEO will support us to embed this change and to continue to evolve in a rapidly changing world. It will be critical to appoint a CEO with outstanding leadership, and who can achieve this in close partnership with the Chair, Board and our volunteer and staff groups.
We are seeking an exceptional individual to lead, inspire and deliver organisational strategy. The successful candidate will draw upon a track record of strategic development, operational complexity and people leadership. They will have the commercial experience and external influencing and engagement skills to take Samaritans confidently into a demanding future. If you are an experienced and inspirational organisational leader who shares our deep commitment and vision that fewer people die by suicide, we would love to hear from you.
Samaritans is wholly committed to inclusion and diversity, and to building a culture and environment where everyone is appreciated for the unique person that they are.  We actively warmly encourage applications from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences.
