Army Benevolent Fund

Trustees

Job Reference XBKOB
Closing Date Friday 19 Apr 2024

We are the Army’s national charity. The welfare of soldiers, former soldiers, and their immediate families is at the heart of everything we do. This is our 80th year of ensuring that every soldier, past, present, and future, can avoid hardship and live with independence and dignity.

As one of the largest funders in the sector, we delivered £9m of support last year to 70,000 members of the Army family in 45 countries; as part of this programme, we funded 74 other charities and organisations delivering specialist services. Our support is all the more important in light of the current economic circumstances and the increasingly complex health and social care needs of the Army family.

It is an exciting time to join our Board as we have re-focused our brand and put in place a four-year plan geared towards having the greatest impact in meeting the evolving needs of the Army family.

We are looking for two new trustees to support the charity in delivering its future objectives:

  1. The first individual will bring recent financial experience, ideally as CFO or Finance Director, with an accounting background and professional accountancy qualification to help us maintain the highest levels of financial governance. It will be beneficial if they bring investment expertise.
  2. The second will have broad based commercial experience and business acumen, to assist us in our marketing, fundraising and communications activities.

We are seeking individuals who will also engage with the charity outside of formal meetings and contribute to our reach and reputation. A military background is not required, and we are also interested in meeting candidates who have not acted as a charity trustee before.

We are committed to championing equality, diversity, and inclusion on our Board, amongst our workforce and in all our behaviours, and we welcome and encourage applications from all backgrounds.
