We are part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and are the largest public funder in the UK for non-medical bioscience. We support around 1,600 scientists and 2,000 research students to carry out research which has the potential to change the world.

We are now seeking a Deputy Executive Chair to support and champion our critical work, investing in world-class bioscience research and training. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in helping society to meet major challenges ranging from food security to green energy and enabling us to lead healthier, longer lives, while also underpinning important UK economic sectors such as farming, food, industrial biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals.

You will play a pivotal role in setting our overarching vision and long-term goals and bring intellectual leadership to the development and delivery of a coherent strategy for research and innovation. Working collaboratively with colleagues, you will advance bioscience research and innovation working across UKRI and connecting to the wider bioscience research and innovation community in universities, research institutes and across Government.

You will have a clear record of academic achievement in any branch of the biological sciences, have actively contributed to supporting the wider research system, and have an understanding of the broader discipline and its applications. With proven strategic and analytical skills, you will have the ability to analyse potentially conflicting information. You should have considerable experience of stakeholder management, as well as the ability to build relationships and communicate effectively in a range of channels and for a range of audiences.
