Blue Ventures is a marine conservation organisation that exists to protect the life in our ocean, founded on the simple idea of putting communities at the heart of conservation. By engaging and mobilising the communities that live alongside − and depend upon − marine biodiversity, we work to end overfishing and the marine extinction it leads to. By listening and responding to basic human needs, we design our work to catalyse and sustain marine conservation, unlocking the potential of coastal communities to manage their oceans.
Working in seven countries across four continents, our 270 strong team works in places where the ocean is vital to local cultures and economies, and where we can help advance the rights of small-scale fishers.
As the importance of our mission and impact of our work have continued to grow, we are now seeking to appoint a Managing Director to drive the execution of our mission and strategy. The Managing Director will be a new position responsible for working with our founder CEO, our Board of Trustees and across the broader senior management team. S/he will oversee all planning and delivery of the organisation’s operations, including field operations and all programmatic support functions, and will provide line management to the Directors of the Senior Management Team
Candidates will bring a passion for our work, allied to a track record of successful, senior executive leadership at a relevant organisation of equivalent or greater scale, including the management of diverse, international multi-disciplinary teams. You will have a background of significant accomplishment in complex operational, financial and people management and have a strong focus on planning and execution. You will bring experience of living, working and managing operations in the Global South and a commitment to the positive, collaborative, engaged and performance driven culture that will ensure our onward impact.
