The British Council is seeking to appoint an experienced and exceptional leader as Chair of its Board of Trustees. They must be passionate about building cultural and educational connections, and understanding and trust, between people in the UK and countries worldwide to support peace and prosperity.

The successful person must be credible with senior stakeholders within and outside government and be able to operate at the highest levels on a global stage. They will need to be an experienced Non-Executive Director, with an impressive record of achievement at the most senior level in large and complex organisations. They must have fundraising experience and connections to enable the organisation to attract significant new income and be able to build sympathetic partnerships which complement and enhance the work of the British Council

Founded in 1934, we are a charity incorporated by Royal Charter – one of the largest in the UK – with a substantial English teaching and assessment revenue-generating arm that helps to support our purpose.  We are also a public corporation and non-departmental public body that receives grant in aid from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), so we have a unique governance structure and operate under public service scrutiny.

The role is unremunerated and requires approximately 30 days of work per annum.
