Chief Executive

Job Reference EAZXB
Closing Date Monday 05 Feb 2024

Britten Pears Arts is a pioneering cultural charity based on the Suffolk coast. It emerged from the determination of composer Benjamin Britten and his partner, singer Peter Pears, to ensure that everyone could enjoy and experience music, or as Britten himself would have put it: to enhance lives.

The organisation has a long history dating back to the first Aldeburgh Festival in 1948, founded by Britten and Pears. What started as a two-week festival has evolved into three strands of year-round activity, including an artist development programme, community and creative health projects in a range of settings alongside a world-class performance programme.   In April 2020 Snape Maltings, formerly Aldeburgh Music, and the Britten-Pears Foundation merged to become Britten Pears Arts.  The Foundation managed Britten’s estate, The Red House and Britten Pears Archive, and the merger fulfilled Britten and Pears’s ambition for a single organisation – a “Creative Campus”.  Today, Snape Maltings and The Red House are inspirational cultural destinations.

Snape Maltings Trading Limited is a wholly-owned subsidiary comprising of independent shops, art galleries, restaurants and cafés, providing an essential income stream to the charity.

The Board of Trustees is now seeking candidates for the role of CEO for Britten Pears Arts. The post-holder will bring strategic direction and leadership to the organisation having gained strategic leadership experience, at a senior level, in an arts organisation. The CEO will be a key ambassador for BPA and needs to be a compelling communicator and advocate.
