West Kent Housing Association

Chair

Job Reference CAMAWB
Closing Date Monday 26 Sep 2022

West Kent is a high performing and growing community-based housing association, providing much needed affordable homes and services to people living in towns and villages throughout Kent. Our vision is to deliver places to live and space to grow for our current and future residents. As we plan for the decade ahead, there has never been a more important role for us.

The last two years has brought much change for us all and this in turn is changing what we want from a home and what we value from our communities. We have some important strategic decisions ahead and we want our customers to be proud of their home and the communities they live in. We want to increase the number and range of homes available for our current and future residents, from our current base of 8,100 managed homes.

The current economic climate is arguably one of the most challenging it has been, at a time when expectations and regulatory requirements regarding building safety, meeting net zero are increasing.

West Kent has been in business for over 33 years as an independent housing provider and we are proud of the organisation we have become. From our G1/V1 regulatory ratings, to our strong reputation amongst residents, partners and other stakeholders.

We are looking for a new Chair of our Board as well as three board members to replace colleagues who have reached their maximum terms of appointment. To complement the continuing Board Members, we are looking for a range of skills and experience in our new members to include financial expertise, probably gained as a finance director, commercial expertise, ideally in a property investment environment, and senior experience in housing services.

We are determined to build a diverse board, reflective of the communities we serve, and comprising people who bring a broad mix of different skills and perspectives. We are keen to attract applicants from the broadest possible range of backgrounds and look forward to welcoming new colleagues who will enjoy the work we do and bring both support and constructive challenge to our discussions and decision making.

The roles will require an average of one-two days a month, slightly more for the Chair, and all roles are remunerated. Most board meetings will take place at our head office in Sevenoaks.

Our vision is to deliver places to live and space to grow for our current and future residents.
