Editor in Chief

Job Reference TAEADA
Closing Date Thursday 28 Feb 2019

The Cochrane Collaboration is one of the world’s most respected and trusted sources of health and healthcare evidence for clinicians and practitioners, policymakers, guideline
producers, researchers and for patients and carers. Cochrane Systematic Reviews are regarded as the ‘gold standard’ in healthcare evidence, and over 7,500 of them are collected in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR), one of the top medical journals in the world which – together with other synthesized evidence and clinical trials databases – forms the Cochrane Library (www.cochranelibrary.com).

Cochrane’s global network of 13,000 members and over 50,000 supporters (from more than 130 countries working together in 150 Cochrane Groups) gather, synthesize and promote the best evidence from clinical trials and other research to help people make informed choices about health treatment and care. They are researchers, health professionals, patients, carers, and people passionate about improving health outcomes for everyone, everywhere, and they form a unique collaboration.

Cochrane’s Editor in Chief leads the editorial development of the Cochrane Library and related Cochrane content to ensure that they achieve our goal of offering high-quality, relevant, up-to-date
systematic reviews and other synthesized research evidence to inform health decision making around the world. Dr David Tovey, Cochrane’s first Editor in Chief, is stepping down after ten years
in the role. His successor – as both the external face of Cochrane’s content and the internal lead for the editorial production of Cochrane evidence – will play a key role in taking the organisation
forward beyond our existing Strategy to 2020.

The Editor in Chief must possess a compelling vision for the future of Cochrane evidence in a fastchanging and challenging environment; the intellectual rigour to lead and support Cochrane’s
evidence production and its translation into policy and practice; and the managerial and people skills as a member of Cochrane’s Senior Management Team to lead, facilitate and support the work
of staff and volunteer collaborators in a complex global community.

With a background in health research or biomedical statistics or health publishing, the new Editor in Chief will have established leadership experience in an editorial role within a relevant
organisation. S/he could be located anywhere although there is a preference for London, UK.
