The Engineering Council is the UK regulatory body for the engineering profession. The Council ensures that employers, government, and wider society – both in the UK and overseas – have confidence in the knowledge, experience and commitment of professionally registered engineers and technicians. The Council works with international partners to enhance the mobility of engineering graduates as well as professionally registered engineers and technicians.

The Engineering Council is now looking to appoint a new CEO. Providing leadership to all staff alongside 100 volunteers, the CEO will work with the Board and its committees to deliver the Council’s key priorities including enhancing and promoting the benefits of registration, strengthening our international networks, and more generally to ensure that the Council plays a leading role in modernising skills and attitudes within the engineering profession. The CEO will also continue to deliver the rigorous and robust regulatory and licensing functions of the Council and maintain positive and constructive relationships with a wide array of stakeholders including Professional Engineering Institutions (PEIs), EngineeringUK, the Privy Council Office, the Royal Academy of Engineering, other engineering bodies, government, employers, and academia. The Engineering Council is in a unique position to influence how these bodies work together to ensure that engineering contributes positively to society.

Good candidates will bring well developed leadership experience at a senior level and will possess a deep understanding of professional bodies, the regulatory function and the purpose of professional registration. They will be able to operate effectively within the engineering community, demonstrating a commitment to the Engineering Council’s vision and to the principles of sustainability, diversity and inclusion.
