Ipswich School has a proud and long music tradition which can be traced back throughout the school’s 600 year history. Today, the Britten Faculty of Music has an impressive reputation as a centre for musical creativity where young musicians thrive. The School’s Chapel Choir provides opportunity for pupils to tour internationally whilst also performing locally at the internationally acclaimed Snape Maltings. Instrumentalists enjoy a range of leading ensembles including the school’s Symphony Orchestra, String Ensemble and Big Band. As part of a busy and buzzing school, the Music Department spans both the Prep and the Senior Schools and provides pupils with as broad range of opportunities as possible to perform, create, listen to and compose music through classes, group ensembles, private lessons and productions. Every year sees the production of the Festival of Music which brings notable performers to School and attracts large audiences. This is an exciting opportunity to join and lead a renowned music department within a school of national and international reputation.

In its next Director, the School is looking for an ambitious leader to build on the success of recent years, continuing to drive the standard of music performance and academic achievement within the department.

After some exciting appointments across the School, the Headmaster, Nick Weaver, is seeking to recruit a Director of Music who will bring innovation, ambition and creativity to this flourishing department. The successful candidate will contribute to academic teaching, but focus primarily on building and further developing the department’s performance reputation.  It is hoped that the Director will be able to reach out into the local community and continue to drive the reputation of the Department as a centre of excellence, both in the region and nationally.

Ideal candidates will be an outstanding musician with a vibrant and positive personality. It is not a requirement to have worked in a school before, the school would welcome interest from both ambitious Directors and Deputy Directors of Music and individuals currently working in the music and arts sector.
