Non-Executive Director

Job Reference TACARE
Closing Date Thursday 04 Mar 2021

Location: London
London Ambulance Service’s (LAS) mission is to be a world-class ambulance service for a world-class city.
As the only London-wide NHS Trust covering an area of 620 square miles, LAS is the busiest ambulance service in the UK. It does extraordinary work, both on the frontline of emergency services and at the heart of the NHS across the capital, providing urgent care to patients at the right time, and in the most effective way possible. After a challenging period a few years ago, the London Ambulance Service is improving rapidly: judged to be a “good” service by the Care Quality Commission; it is working to harness opportunities to continuously improve in order to provide safe, high-quality, patient-centred care for all who need it.
With 8,000 committed colleagues, LAS’s people are at the heart of its ability to continue improving at a time when the Trust is under intense pressure during the pandemic. Amidst a wider backdrop of deeper integration of health service delivery across London, the Trust is on a change journey, transforming and modernising the directorate’s systems, operational priorities and ways of working. As a part of this, LAS is dedicated to cultural transformation, embedding its values with a focus on growing the confidence and capability of an inclusive, diverse workforce. In this context, it is a powerful moment to consider the impact non-executives can have on LAS. As a key member of the Trust Board, you would provide advice, guidance and challenge to the Executive to ensure delivery of this ambition.
Joining a well-established board led by Heather Lawrence, this person will bring senior HR and organisational development experience. As Chair of LAS’s People and Culture Committee, all candidates must be confident in a senior, high performing, board environment and in their ability to constructively challenge and probe performance in a large, complex, organisational setting. Remunerated and requiring a commitment of the equivalent of 2-3 days per month, we are keen to hear from people who bring relevant skills and have the desire to contribute for the benefit of all Londoners.
