The MSC’s vision is for the world’s oceans to be teeming with life, and seafood supplies safeguarded for this and future generations. Through our world-leading certification and ecolabeling programme we recognise and reward sustainable fisheries and through the leadership of our partners, create market incentives to encourage other fisheries to improve the way they operate. Over 300 fisheries around the world, representing 14% of the annual global marine catch, are now engaged in the MSC programme. MSC certified and labelled seafood products are now available in over 100 countries.

This is a tremendous opportunity for the right individual to make a significant contribution to MSC’s mission and vision, leading MSC’s work to listen and respond to complex stakeholder perspectives and priorities, communicating creatively and credibly about how our programme contributes globally to safeguarding oceans and seafood supplies.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Global Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Director will lead and deliver the MSC’s stakeholder engagement, public relations, digital and marketing programmes, engaging a range of audiences across a diverse set of geographies and platforms.  As part of the Executive Committee, the Global Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Director contributes to the global delivery of the vision and mission of the MSC and to the collective management and strategic development of the organisation.

The successful candidate will combine vision, creativity and strategic thinking with exceptional relationship-building, communication and negotiation skills and abilities, energy and a strong spirit of teamwork, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. The Director will promote a high-performance culture and creativity that values learning, innovation, collaboration and evaluation, guiding and managing staff directly, and across the regions in matrix relationships.

They will bring significant proven and relevant experience at a senior level in stakeholder engagement as well as PR, communications and/or marketing an international organisation with diverse issues, interests and audiences.   Gravitas, confidence and an ability to manage multiple stakeholders within a variety of geographical and political contexts will also be vital for this role, as well as an aptitude and interest in understanding and communicating complex scientific, political and commercial information.  The appointee must be an advocate of MSC’s mission and passionate about its core purpose and values.
