Methodist Independent Schools Trust (MIST)

Chair

Job Reference VAFASB
Closing Date Thursday 07 Mar 2024

The Methodist Church is engaged in education as part of its Christian mission in the world. Methodist Schools are inclusive and welcoming communities where individuals are valued, relationships cherished, and where excellence in its widest sense (academic, extra-curricular, lifestyle) is pursued. The Methodist Independent Schools Trust (MIST) has oversight of ten independent schools and has a turnover in the order of £100m and is constituted as an incorporated charity.

MIST is supported by a group of dedicated Trustees who are drawn from various professions and offer the Trust considerable experience and commitment. MIST is now seeking to appoint their Chair who, with the Trustees and working through the Executive Team, will be responsible for taking them into the next phase of our development.

Candidates should bring experience of strategic leadership at board level and strong financial and business skills. They will be in tune with the Methodist Ethos and values and appreciate the responsibilities of trusteeship in a charity and ethos-driven organisation. An understanding of the challenges facing the independent education sector would also be beneficial. This role represents the opportunity to be a part of helping to lead one of the UK’s 100 largest charities by turnover, having a positive impact on the life of its students across the Trust. The time commitment for the role will be approximately four to six days per month.
