Job Reference TAOAFA
Closing Date Thursday 18 Mar 2021

The National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) is a UK-wide partnership between research funders working together to make faster progress against cancer. Established in 2001, NCRI works to coordinate research related to cancer, to improve the quality and relevance of research, and to accelerate translation of research into clinical practice for the benefit of patients. Covid-19 has had a dramatic impact on cancer research funding, and the next few years will be critical. NCRI has a crucial strategic role to play in driving a coordinated re-start following the pandemic, for maximum impact on patients: its work has never been more necessary.
The NCRI now wishes to appoint a senior individual as Chair who has the passion and ability to maintain and build on its real successes, and guide the NCRI through the next phase of its development. A visionary convenor and enabler, the Chair will provide dynamic leadership to the board and wider organisation, developing an ambitious strategy to drive best-in-class partnerships working across the whole cancer research ecosystem. They will represent the purpose and ambitions of NCRI as an ambassador at all levels nationally and internationally, at what is a significant inflection point for the organisation and sector as a whole.
A compelling communicator and relationship builder, the incoming Chair will bring relevant board-level experience in an organisation of comparable or greater scale and complexity to NCRI. With strong influencing and strategic ability, they will inspire confidence in and drive greater collaboration across the cancer research community. Low-ego but high in emotional intelligence with a natural gravitas, they will be comfortable driving change in complex, ambiguous environments. Candidates will bring a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and a belief in the strategic aims, vision and culture of the NCRI.
