The National Trust for Scotland (The Trust) is the independent, conservation charity that protects and promotes Scotland’s natural and cultural heritage for present and future generations to enjoy. With over 350,000 members, it is the largest membership charity in Scotland. Established in 1931, the Trust acts as guardian of much of the nation’s most important architectural, scenic, and historic treasures. The Trust acts on behalf of everyone to safeguard our heritage, caring for more than 100 sites across Scotland, from historic houses, major battlefields, more than 70 gardens, landscapes such as Glencoe, birthplace museums including Robert Burns, and the only dual World Heritage Site in the UK – St Kilda.

The Trust now seeks an exceptional Commercial Enterprises Director to lead and develop all commercial enterprise activities within the Trust, presently in the areas of merchandise and retail, catering, hospitality and travel trade, holidays, and with the potential to expand into new areas of business. This is a new role working closely with the Chief Operating Officer in leading the enhancement and optimisation of Trust-wide enterprise activities across the Trust’s portfolio of properties.

Candidates will bring outstanding financial and commercial acumen with an innovative and creative mindset. They will bring strong knowledge and experience of working successfully in a customer orientated and visitor experience environment. They will bring broad knowledge across retail, hospitality and leisure and catering services, ideally gained in a senior management level role where strategic and operational planning has been paramount to success. The successful candidate will bring an entrepreneurial flair and compelling track record of leading transformational change within a complex organisation of comparable scale, and they must be able to demonstrate the cultural flexibility to work within the diverse nature of a charitable body such as the Trust. The appointed candidate will report to the Chief Operating Officer and be based in Scotland.
