NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board

Company Secretary

Job Reference ABMCA
Closing Date Monday 12 Feb 2024

NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board (ICB) is an NHS organisation responsible for health and care integration, developing strategies and overseeing delivery of plans that meets the health needs of our communities, ensuring the provision of joined up health services that improve the lives of people who live and work in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

We are looking for a qualified Company Secretary to work with our Board and partners to constructively challenge the status quo (being proactive with potential solutions) regarding our own and shared governance arrangements, keeping us safe and helping to build our reputation for best practice governance. With a full grasp of risk-based thinking you would help the ICB align risk appetites and priorities across our system organisations and as a result help facilitate more integrated decision making and change, at pace, rather than this being a role that just focuses on processes.

Our vision is to make Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly “a great place to be born, live and thrive and grow old”. We provide the foundation to achieve this by bringing together all the NHS, local authorities, Primary Care the Ambulance service, the voluntary sector, (to name a few) and other independent providers of care and services to provide seamless care that our people deserve working at both county and community level.

You will be a formal participant of the main ICB Board, reporting to both the Chair of the ICB Board and ICB CEO. This is a really exciting role, acting as the interface between our Board and other Boards and governance partners for the ICB, as well as our wider Integrated Care Partnership (ICP) across our health and care system.

As a formal member of the ICB Board, the Company Secretary shares responsibility for strategic planning, corporate policy-making and the delivery of Board objectives, through providing leadership, advice and assurance of the formal administrative Board duties for the Chairman, Board and CEO.

You will be an exceptional leader with experience operating at a senior leadership level, either within healthcare, local government or another transferable sector. You will be at ease operating in a complex system with multiple partners and stakeholder organisations, having experience of leading highly complex and contentious quality improvement at scale, with a track record of leading and delivering tangible results. You will be a natural communicator with substantial experience of complex stakeholder relationship management, understanding legal and governance requirements to ensure effective board operation and an ability to operate with discretion.

By working in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly you get to enjoy one of the most beautiful and picturesque parts of the country, with stunning shoreline and beaches, national landmarks and breathtaking views. Find out more about living in Cornwall here.

We are committed to creating an inclusive and diverse work environment and are always keen to hear from people who would like to work with us. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, disability or long-term health condition, gender identity or expression, race or ethnicity, faith, sex, sexuality or veteran status. We are looking for people whose personal values and behaviours align with the NHS values outlined in the NHS Constitution and our own values and behaviours.
