Ofwat is the economic regulator for water and wastewater companies in England and Wales. Safe, reliable and sustainable water and wastewater services are essential for our day-to-day lives, our wellbeing, and our natural world.

The water sector faces significant challenges including pressure from population growth, changing customer expectations and climate change. Customers are increasingly concerned about environmental harm, caused by carbon emissions and pollution from sewers. At the same time, it’s still vital to manage the affordability of this essential service for customers.

The Director, Policy & Outcomes will lead a portfolio of public and regulatory policy projects. This is a wide ranging role where the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing policies that encourage and incentivise water companies to work in the long-term interest of customers, society and the environment.

The successful candidate will be a thought leader in public and regulatory policy with a strong focus on   delivery and an ability to drive progress. They will be able to manage a wide portfolio of activities and to lead a diverse team with a high degree of autonomy. They will have a strong understanding of regulatory issues, most likely in relation to utility sectors.  They will be comfortable with using a range of regulatory tools and will require strong communication and influencing skills, have a proven ability to engage with senior stakeholders in the public and private sectors and an ability to work collaboratively.
