We have a vision of a world free from female genital cutting.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and grow an outstanding organisation that is enabling real change on a major but under-recognised issue, impacting millions of girls and women around the world. Female genital cutting (FGC) is a harmful practice involving full or partial removal of a girl’s external genitals. More than 200 million girls and women are affected by FGC and a further 3.9 million girls are at risk of being cut each year. As a social norm amongst many communities around the world, FGC is a deep rooted practice. It can be incredibly harmful to a girl’s long term health – physically, emotionally and psychologically, as well as being a violation of her human rights. Adherence to FGC is often very deep seated, and thus bringing about a change where FGC is practised requires culturally respectful engagement and dialogue. The good news is that change is already happening and Orchid Project is proud to be part of that change.

Founded by Julia Lalla-Maharajh OBE in 2011, Orchid Project seeks to end FGC within a generation through a combination of extensive global advocacy, wider communication of the issue, through sharing best practice and partnering programmatically at the grassroots. A dynamic and innovative organisation, Orchid Project has, in a short space of time, become a widely respected, effective global agent for change, making significant strides to foster and accelerate an end to FGC.

As Julia steps into an ambassadorial role for the organisation, Orchid Project is looking to its next Chief Executive Officer to build on its success, leading its experienced and passionate team into the next stage of its development and impact. We are seeking a visionary, strategic and courageous leader to realise our ambitions, engage with integrity with our key partners and embrace our approach of catalysing community-led change.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of values driven, entrepreneurial, creative and collaborative leadership that has delivered measurable impact to support social change. You will have experience of influencing high-level, international and diverse stakeholders, and of inspiring and motivating teams. You will be a strong operational manager, networker and communicator, with high integrity and credibility.

This is an extraordinary opportunity to make a positive and lasting effect on the lives of millions of girls and women. If you share our vision and values, and you have the exceptional leadership skills needed to help us carry out our mission, we would love to hear from you. We are a diverse and inclusive team and welcome applications from candidates from a broad range of backgrounds.
