Royal Veterinary College

Director of Governance

Job Reference IATALB
Closing Date Friday 03 Feb 2023

The Royal Veterinary College is the UK’s largest and longest-established independent vet school and a Member Institution of the University of London. Our facilities include the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals in Hertfordshire, the largest small animal referral hospital in Europe, and the London BioScience Innovation Centre, London’s first centre for early-stage life science companies. Today, the RVC offers an impressive range of undergraduate, postgraduate and CPD programmes, with a student population of over 2,500. We have over 150 research-active academic staff, involved in programmes that address both basic and clinical problems in the biosciences, with applications across human and veterinary medicine. Our programmes have international appeal and attract students who go on to become practicing veterinarians, research scientists, veterinary nurses and leaders in industry and government.

We are now looking to appoint a new Director of Governance to lead the provision of efficient and effective services that help deliver our strategic, operational, regulatory and compliance related objectives and obligations. As a key member of the Professional Services Division (PSD), this individual will also play a critical role in the College’s wider strategic planning and be responsible for building and maintaining effective external networks.

Strong candidates will have a track record of supporting governance within a relevant and similarly complex environment. They will bring outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage sensitive matters with discretion and diplomacy, and to engage with credibility at senior levels within the RVC as well as externally. A high level of attention to detail, numeracy skills and ability to prioritise competing demands and operate under a level of uncertainty will also be key. Knowledge of HE governance principles and the wider contemporary HE environment would be beneficial.
