Swansea University is seeking to appoint a research leader in systems and process engineering, with expertise in electrical and electronic engineering to its College of Engineering, located on Swansea’s Bay Campus.

Now one of the top 10 in the UK, Swansea University’s College of Engineering has enjoyed a significant period of transformative growth, investment and development, including exceptional growth in research income. Student and staff numbers have doubled over the last decade, and the international research profile of the College has grown substantially. The College is based within the largest knowledge economy project in the UK, the Bay Campus, one of the top five major infrastructure investments in Europe. This £450 million development on the eastern approach to the city signals our intention to be one of the finest places to live, teach, research and collaborate in Europe.

Swansea’s Systems and Process Engineering Centre (SPEC) is one of the four main research clusters within the College of Engineering. It is home to 42 academic staff and covers a broad range of engineering and science encompassing electrical device design, sensor technologies, nanotechnology, chemical and biological process engineering and biomedical analytics.

This appointment requires a strong individual with proven research and research leadership skills to drive a world-leading research programme to help sustain our translational research agenda. The appointee will lead and drive growth of SPEC, working with a large group of academics to jointly strategize research and deliver research outcomes of internationally leading quality. Strong candidates will have a sustained and distinguished record of publications of world leading or internationally excellent research outputs, in terms of reach, significance and impact. They will also bring a track record of attracting funding for and leading major programmes of individual or collaborative research.

Research interests in one or more of the following Industry 4.0 related areas would be ideal: Devices (electrical or optical, especially on the nano-scale); compound semi-conductors; energy infrastructure in the UK; innovation in energy (for example, battery technology); and the Internet of Things.
