Bursar

Job Reference FPEA
Closing Date Thursday 20 May 2021

Location: Oxford
The Oxford Union Society, founded in 1823, is one of Britain’s oldest university unions and one of the world’s most famous and prestigious private student societies. The Union is still to this day led by its students, and plays host to a wide platform of prominent speakers who shape the world we live in. With a firm commitment to freedom of speech and open debate, the Oxford Union has an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford.
The Union is now looking for a Bursar who can build on the successes of the past, especially as we approach our bicentenary in 2023. In addition to ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the Union, the Bursar will also have a view to the long-term strategy of the organisation, especially the management of its unique heritage buildings.
The position of Bursar of the Oxford Union is an unusual and highly rewarding role. Answerable to the President and Standing Committee, one moment the Bursar will be welcoming and hosting a Prime Minister or an A-list actor, the next they will be making sure a drain is repaired. It’s one of the most exciting and varied jobs there is, and we are looking for someone who will bring a commercial and strategic mindset; will be in command of the finances and IT; will develop the best rapport and relationships with the elected officers; will be a courteous host; will ensure the events and hospitality businesses are running well; and will bring the tact, diplomacy, stamina and enthusiasm needed to support the success of this distinctive student-led organisation.
