Turner Contemporary is one of the UK’s favourite art galleries. Founded to celebrate JMW Turner’s connection to Margate, the David Chipperfield designed gallery opened in 2011 and has since welcomed over 3.6 million visitors. Their work extends beyond showcasing world class exhibitions, to driving the social and economic regeneration of Margate and East Kent and transforming lives in one of the most deprived areas of the UK. Turner Contemporary is widely recognised as an important catalyst for the regeneration of Margate and East Kent with a track record of transforming lives and driving real positive impact through the arts. The gallery has become one of the most exciting creative hubs in the UK with a growing arts scene and a beautiful, inspiring setting.

Turner Contemporary is looking for an outstanding Chair to lead the Board and work with the Director to ensure the gallery achieves its ambitions. The Chair will provide leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees, enabling the Board to fulfil its responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of Turner Contemporary and will act as an effective ambassador for the gallery.

Successful candidates will be experienced at board level, ideally with experience of chairing, and have a passion for the visual arts and the power of art to transform lives. They will be excellent relationship-builders and strategic thinkers with the time, energy and enthusiasm required for this crucial role.
