Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Resources and Operations)

Job Reference WABSJ
Closing Date Thursday 25 Apr 2024

The University of Cambridge is consistently ranked as one of the best universities in the world, and is renowned for its record of discovery and innovation. With a regional, national and global reach that helps to attract the very best and brightest minds, our research is remarkable in its breadth, quality and impact. Cambridge sits at the heart of Europe’s largest technology cluster and has catalysed more than 1,500 high-tech companies. And yet, what inspires our 24,000 students and 12,500 staff is not what has already been achieved, but what is possible in the future.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Resources and Operations) is a newly configured position within our senior leadership team and presents an exciting opportunity to join Cambridge at a pivotal moment in our history. As Pro-Vice-Chancellor, you will provide visible academic leadership across the University, in four principal areas which are fundamental to the University’s continued success: the prioritisation, distribution and use of resources across the University to optimise operational effectiveness; integration of academic planning with resource planning; oversight of the University’s change and transformation programmes; and oversight of the University’s IT and digital capability.  Although the portfolio is expansive, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor will be expected to lead activity principally at a strategic level, supported by all relevant professional services divisions.

The successful candidate will bring a record of achievement as a leader in a large and complex higher education or research institution alongside substantial experience of prioritisation, resource allocation and financial planning.  Experience of managing change and leading the adoption of digital technologies would be advantageous.  Academic credibility at Professorial level with the ability to influence outcomes and build consensus are critical elements for success in the role.
